Bryn Terfel Goes Bad – with Singing that’s Never Been Better Bad Boys out April 13th

Bad Boys features arias and songs from the dirtiest, darkest and most diabolical figures in opera Swedish Radio Choir/Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra/Paul Daniel

“Terfel’s powerful vocal presence is born of physical presence and he harnesses words, in any language, like few others.” Gramophone

April 8th, 2010 – In opera, the tenor always seems to get the girl while the baritone is relegated to the role of the unsavory character. With his new Deutsche Grammophon recording Bad Boys, out April 13th, 2010, Welsh bass-baritone Bryn Terfel dives headlong into this stereotype portraying a line-up of musical villains that includes the most unscrupulous, cynical, devious and roguish figures of the opera stage and musical theater. Thoroughly convincing as villains you would not want to meet alone in the dark, Bryn Terfel wields a full, wide ranging bass-baritone ever in service to dramatic instincts unique for each character.

This release comes just as Terfel arrives in the Unites States to perform the role of the crooked policeman Scarpia in Puccini’s Tosca at New York’s Metropolitan Opera (April 14th-24th), a role he also portrays on this disc.
