BSO OrchKids Host “El Sistema in the United States,” May 7

Concert features students from several El Sistema-based programs The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s OrchKids will collaborate with students from Virginia Symphony’s “Soundscapes,” Philadelphia Youth Orchestra’s “Tune Up Philly,” and The People’s Music School’s “YOURS” for a day of music making and celebration of the El Sistema movement in the United States on Saturday, May 7 at Lockerman Bundy Elmentary School (LBES). The day-long event culminates in a concert that is open to the public at 5 p.m. at LBES. Tune Up Philly, Y.O.U.R.S., Soundscapes, and OrchKids are four of the nation’s most innovative and successful El Sistema-inspired programs in the United States. This event will be the first of its kind in the nation.

Música Latina: A Symphonic Celebration of the Americas The Colorado Symphony announces today that its Youth Concert program, Música Latina: A Symphonic Celebration of the Americas will be open to the public on Friday, November 12, 2010 at 9:50 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. as a part of Visit Denver's Arts Week. A Debut, an Anniversary and a Springboard for Young Players

An exuberant cacophony greeted audience members entering Riverside Church before a concert by the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra on Tuesday evening, as ensemble members sat onstage energetically rehearsing. Significant collective and individual preparation had clearly gone into their terrific concert, the orchestra’s New York debut appearance, celebrating the 40th anniversary of its founding by Leonard Slatkin, the former music director and now conductor laureate of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. Ward Stare, music director of the youth ensemble (comprising musicians ages 12 to 22) and resident conductor of the St. Louis Symphony, has trained his charges exceptionally well. The string, woodwind, brass and percussion sections also received coaching from members of the New York Philharmonic before the concert, which was a benefit for the Riverside Food Pantry. Saint Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra Performs at Riverside Church, June 8th - Part of First Trip to New York City

NYC trip (June 5-9, 2010) first in series of events to commemorate 40th anniversary of Youth Orchestra The Saint Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra (YO) will perform at the historic Riverside Church on Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at 7 PM as part of its first trip to New York City . YO Music Director and SLSO Resident Conductor Ward Stare will conduct the performance, which will benefit the Riverside Food Pantry. The concert repertoire will include Mendelssohn’s Reformation Symphony and other works performed during the YO’s 2009-2010 season. This concert is the first in a series of events to commemorate the YO’s 40th anniversary season. The YO was founded in 1970 by SLSO Conductor Laureate Leonard Slaktin. Sixty-four current members of the YO and three alumni will spend four days in Manhattan visiting several New York music landmarks.
