Thirteenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition broadcast to 246 radio stations

WRR Classical 101.1 FM, the Cliburn Foundation and American Public Media's Performance Today are collaborating on a multi-part radio series regarding the 13th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition to be broadcast on 246 stations across the United States from Bass Hall in Fort Worth, Texas. The series may be heard via radio or Internet and features outstanding performances before, during and after the 13th Van Cliburn International Competition.

WRR will broadcast the final rounds of the Thirteenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition live beginning June 3 at 7:30pm (CST). The broadcasts will culminate on Sunday June 7th with the awarding of the First Prize Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Gold Medal; the Second Prize Marcia and Bobby French Silver Medal; and the Third Prize Mollie L. and Garland M. Lasater Charitable Fund of the Community Foundation of North Texas Chrystal Award.

Nationally-syndicated radio host Fred Child of American Public Media's Performance Today is the Master of Ceremonies for the Cliburn Competition awards ceremony and is a guest host of WRR's live coverage throughout the final round. "We're excited to partner with Performance Today for the Thirteenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition," says Gregory T. Davis, General Manager of WRR Classical 101.1 FM. "The opportunity to offer the world an event of such cultural importance is an honor."

WRR's Cliburn Competition reporter Matt Erikson is joined by Mr. Child to host the concert broadcasts. Special guests of the Bass Hall broadcasts include Jose' Feghali the Gold medalist of the 7th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and Vladimir Viardo the Gold Medalist of the 4th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.

For the final round of the competition, each pianist performs a fifty-minute solo recital. The six finalists also play two piano concertos each, accompanied by the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra under the baton of internationally renowned maestro James Conlon.
