The Boston Pops kick off the holidays with an afternoon-long musical celebration of the season at The Shops at Prudential Center, Saturday, December 5, from noon to 6 p.m. The Tanglewood Festival Chorus opens the festivities with performances at noon and 12:45 p.m. in the Prudential Arcade. At 1pm, Keith Lockhart will take the stage to conduct the TFC for their final piece, with special guest 15 year-old Victor, a Make-A-Wish Foundation wish child, accompanying the chorus on piano. The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Massachusetts and Rhode Island granted his wish of a baby grand piano in 2008.

Keith Lockhart will be on hand to sign CDs, as well as help distribute hot chocolate and cookies from 1:30 – 3 p.m. in the Huntington Arcade. The Shops at Prudential Boston Pops event anticipates the opening of the Holiday Pops season at Symphony Hall on Wednesday, December 9, with 35 performances scheduled through December 27.

Other events throughout the day include performances by the Beacon Brass Quintet, made up of members of the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra (1-1:30 p.m. at the Huntington Arcade), musicians from Project STEP, a program for gifted musicians from minority communities (3-3:30 p.m. in the Center Court), the Back Bay Bell Ringers (1:30-3 p.m. at the Food Court), Boston Pops principal tuba Mike Roylance (3:30-4 p.m. in the Huntington Arcade), and John Stevens & the Beantown Swing Quartet (4-4:45 p.m. in the Food Court). The festivities come to an end with a performance by the Boston Children’s Chorus (5-5:20 p.m. and 5:40-6 p.m. in the Food Court).

Prudential shoppers who spend at least $100 on Saturday, December 5, will receive an exclusive copy of the Pops inventive and lighthearted new arrangement of “The Twelve Days of Christmas.” This clever arrangement features snippets of everything from Beethoven to “Bohemian Rhapsody” and became an instant audience favorite, when it was premiered during the 2007 Holiday Pops season.

The Boston Pops Holiday Pops season begins on December 9 and runs through December 27 at Symphony Hall. Tickets may be purchased online at www.bostonpops.org by phone through SymphonyCharge at 888-266-1200 or in person at the Symphony Hall Box Office located at 301 Massachusetts Avenue.
