Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Performs Tribute to the Eagles at Pier Six, July 16

Under the baton of Larry Baird, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, a full rock band and singers Terry Brock, Randy Jackson and John Hines will perform The Music of the Eagles on Friday, July 16 at 8 p.m. at Pier Six in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. This two-hour concert features 18 of the Eagles’ greatest hits including “Heartache Tonight,” “Desperado,” “New Kid in Town” and “Hotel California.” This concert marks the BSO’s third summer tribute performance at Pier Six. Past concerts have included the music of Led Zeppelin and Queen.

Formed in 1971, the Eagles are one of the most successful bands in the world. With 14 Top 40 hits, five number one singles and four number one albums, the California-based band’s album Eagles/Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975 is tied for the best-selling album of all time with Michael Jackson’s Thriller. The band is best known for its contributions to the classic rock genre by merging bluegrass, country and surfer-rock in unique vocal harmonies.

The program’s creator, Brent Haven, kept in mind that audiences want to hear a sound similar to the Eagles’ originals. He uses the band and singers to recreate the Eagles sound while enhancing the music with orchestral accompaniment. “The wonderful thing with an orchestra is that you have an entire palette to call upon,” says Havens. “The band is reproducing what the Eagles did on the albums as closely as possible, and then having an orchestra behind the band gives the music a richness, a whole different feel, a greater sense of depth.” The concert, a “symphonic rock hybrid,” will be staged with lighting that mimics a rock concert atmosphere.

Located in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, Pier Six’s covered outdoor venue hosts dozens of famous acts each summer and is a popular destination for tourists and Baltimore locals alike. Within walking distance to hotels, museums, attractions and a wide variety of restaurants all clustered around the Inner Harbor, patrons can make a day of visiting Baltimore’s most famous tourism area, followed by an evening of music with the BSO.
