Saint Louis Symphony Announces New Member of the Board of Trustees

The Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra (SLSO) announced the appointment of four new members of the Board of Trustees: Joyce Cacho, Walter Hawkins, Peter Miller, and Thelma Steward.

Joyce Cacho is the Chief Sustainability Officer at Novus International. Dr. Cacho holds a Doctorate in Agribusiness Finance Policy and Investment Decisions from the University of Missouri – Columbia , a Master’s in Agricultural Marketing Policy and International Trade from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), and a Bachelor’s in Economics from the University of Windsor in Ontario , Canada . Prior to joining Novus International, Dr. Cacho consulted for companies such as Land O’Lakes, Rabobank International, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, in addition to directing the Agribusiness Initiatives Program of the Corporate Council of Africa. Dr. Cacho currently serves on the Board of Directors of Winrock International and the World Agricultural Forum, the Executive Committee of the Sustainable Agriculture Initiative (SAI) Platform, the Corporate Council of the Missouri Botanical Garden and the Leadership Council of the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center .

Walter Hawkins, Senior Vice President and Treasurer of Peabody Energy Inc., also joins the SLSO Board of Trustees. Hawkins graduated from Georgetown University in 1979 with a bachelor's degree in economics and received his MBA from New York University in 1988. Hawkins previously worked for Mobile Oil’s international treasury and finance group, and continues to work in international business as his efforts have expanded Peabody to its largest acquisitions since Peabody was founded in 1883. Hawkins currently serves on the boards of The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis and the St. Louis Chapter of the American Association of Blacks in Energy.

Peter Miller is the President of the Advisor Development Group at Wells Fargo Advisors LLC. Miller graduated from Hobart College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. Before being joining Wells Fargo, Miller worked at both A.G. Edwards and Kidder Peabody’s Hartford , Connecticut office. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Investment Committee and Grants Policy Committee for the Meadow Foundation. In addition, he chaired Wells Fargo Advisors United Way Campaign in 2009, raising $2.2 million, and is a past Board Member of American Red Cross— St. Louis Chapter.

Thelma Steward is a registered nurse and a lifelong philanthropist. After graduating from the St. Louis Municipal School of Nursing, Steward became a registered nurse in the newborn and premature nursery at Homer G. Philips Hospital . Her dedication to helping others has extended past the healthcare community, as Steward has served as Co-chairperson for the Charmaine Chapman Society of the United Way , Co-Chair for Grace Hill’s Annual Fundraiser, and Chair for Family Ministries – Union Memorial United Methodist Church . Steward currently serves on the boards at Sheldon Concert Hall, the St. Louis Art Museum , Care and Counseling, and Variety the Children’s Charity of St. Louis.

All four of the new Board of Trustees members were elected at the June 8th meeting of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra Board of Trustees.
