55-CD Box Set and More To Be Released October 20
New York, NY (September 11, 2009) -- Deutsche Grammophon, the distinguished “Yellow Label,” celebrates its 111th anniversary with a dedicated website, limited edition box set CD releases, downloads, DVDs, and more.
Since its founding in 1898, Deutsche Grammophon has been considered the leader in the classical music recording industry offering the most technologically advanced, highest quality recordings of the newest, brightest, as well as prominent, well-established artists. Deutsche Grammophon’s 111th anniversary celebration recognizes and commemorates the label’s rich history and forward-thinking ideology.
Deutsche Grammophon’s president Michael Lang said, “Deutsche Grammophon remains the preeminent classical recording company – presenting the finest in recorded music by the best artists – while anticipating and fulfilling the evolving interests of its old and new audiences. Deutsche Grammophon is poised for a vibrant future as remarkable as its storied past.”
Christopher Roberts, president of Classics and Jazz for Universal Music Group International also stated, “With 111 years of history behind it, Deutsche Grammophon remains the world’s largest and proudest classical music label. Since its 100th anniversary eleven years ago, it has continued to thrive in an especially challenging global environment for recorded music.” Mr. Roberts added, “Deutsche Grammophon flourishes because it has never lost sight of its underlying philosophy: Support the artist with the means to make great music and deliver this great music to the public in a beautiful package with creative ideas.”
Designed exclusively for the label’s 111th anniversary, Deutsche Grammophon will launch a new website, www.dg-111.com, on September 12, 2009. Visitors to the website can explore the Deutsche Grammophon catalog (including buy links to Deutsche Grammophon’s online store, www.dgwebshop.com, customized for the U.S. consumer) and browse a detailed overview of the label’s 111-year history. The website will remain live for 111 days from September 12 through December 31, 2009, and each week will feature a different complete recording from The Collector’s Edition 55 CD box set, available for streaming at no cost over the duration of the entire week. The website will also include numerous interactive elements including a “Hall of Fame” in which users vote for their favorite DG recordings and user-uploaded stories and photos. Users can also register to win prizes including a grand prize luxury Mediterranean cruise with Hapag Lloyd Cruises and USB sticks containing the 111 Classic Tracks (described below). 111 winners will be chosen through a random drawing with no purchase necessary.
