London Philharmonic Orchestra Begins 2009/10 Season at Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall, Sept 25 & 26

Friday 25 and Saturday 26 September at 7.30pm

Vladimir Jurowski will lead London Philharmonic Orchestra in their opening concert of the season. Mahler's Symphony 2 'Resurrection' is a magnificent work for large orchestra, full choir, and two female vocal soloists. It contains the composer's hallmarks, from dark, foreboding passages to light, poised themes, and ends with a gradual, drawn-out triumph. On Friday 25 September, this piece forms the whole evening's programme, while on Saturday 26 it is preceded by a short work for large orchestra by György Kurtág, Stele.
