National Youth Choir to hold Concert Jan 10th to Raise Money for Samoa

This weekend, the Concert for Samoa will take place at St Marylebone Parish Church, London W1 to help continue raise much needed funds for the Samoan Tsunami Appeal.

In 2003 the National Youth Choir toured to the island, performing to the King of Samoa, and on national TV amongst other concerts in the region. Following the earthquake and tsunami that had such a devastating effect on the islands of Samoa, American Samoa and Tonga last September, and in recognition of the support they received on tour, they have reunited to perform a concert in aid of relief efforts in the region.

The Concert for Samoa will be performed by members of the re-united National Youth Choir of Great Britain of 2003 (NYC), who will perform a wide repertoire of classic choral music under the direction of NYC's renowned conductor, Mike Brewer. The concert is endorsed not only by the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, but also by the Samoan Embassy in Brussels and the Samoa Appeal of the Rugby Players Association, with pro bono promotional support from the Baker St based Publicis advertising agency.

"We had a fantastic time and were treated like family by the Samoans we stayed with. They gave us copious quantities of food, gave up their houses so we could sleep, and stayed up all night to keep the bugs and mosquitoes off us. The village we stayed in and the nearby resort where we rehearsed were seriously damaged. The resort, Sinalei has been closed since, and is not due to re-open until April next year, impacting tourism in that part of the island. Everyone who has been there knows about the incredible generosity and friendliness of the inhabitants of this small speck in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, and through this concert we hope to show our support and gratitude to the Samoan people." - Members of NYC 2003

The Concert for Samoa takes place on 10th January, from 6.30-8.30pm at St Marylebone Church, 17 Marylebone Road, London. Donations will be made to the Samoan Appeal of the British Red Cross.

All are welcome. Places can be guaranteed and donations made at http://www.justgiving.com/SamoaConcert
