Ben Folds Performs With Keith Lockhart And The Boston Pops, Tomorrow At 8 Pm At Symphony Hall

Singer-songwriter Ben Folds will perform with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops tomorrow at 8 p.m. at Symphony Hall. Ben Folds and Keith Lockhart selected California-based folk band Family of the Year from over 650 online applications submitted through Sonicbids.com to perform a 30 minute opening set for Folds and the Pops, 7:15-7:45 p.m. Established less than a year ago, Family of the Year released its first EP Where is the Sun on September 22. They are influenced by Fleetwood Mac's musical stylings mixed with a hint of late-era Beatles, with songs that weave male and female vocals with catch melodies and personal stories. Three of Family of the Year's members enjoyed local success with the Martha's Vineyard based raw rock ensemble Unbusted, which was featured in EdgeFest Cafes on June 21 and 22, 2006, prior to Boston Pops performances with My Morning Jacket.

The evening’s 8 p.m. concert will showcase Folds’ melodies and irony-laced lyrics with songs from his new recording, Way To Normal, his first studio LP since 2005’s Songs for Silverman. The concert will also feature many of his hits from previous albums, including some from his time fronting his band Ben Folds Five. Ben Folds last performed with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops on Opening Night at Pops on May 9, 2007.
