Golden Globes Music Awards: Rahman claims top spot

There is a lot to say about what won and what didn't at the Golden Globes, but I'd like to focus on the music.
    Best Original Score - Motion Picture
    Alexandre Desplat - The curious Case of Benjamin Button
    Clint Eastwood - Changling
    James Newton Howard - Defiance
    A.R. Rahman - Slumdog Millionaire
    Hans Zimmer - Frost/Nixon

It is interesting that Howard and Zimmer were not given a nod for their collaboration on "The Dark Knight" although perhaps they were by each getting nods for other films. I haven't seen either of these, so I can't comment on the quality of the music. It just seems that with all the press on "The Dark Knight" that would have been an easy choice (although not a winning score). My previous review of Eastwood's music in the "Changling" is enough to suggest I feel this was a nod for his work and not for his music (which is a shame). I've not seen "Benjamin Button" yet either, so no comment. However, "Slumdog Millionaire" was a wonderful film. It is a great film with the music lending well to both the mood and intensity of the images and yet keeping the film upbeat even with some of the darker subject matter. Perhaps A. R. Rahman winning Best Score was the right choice from this list.

My biggest disappointment in the nominations was the lack of "The Reader" by Nico Muhly. It was a fabulous score and should have won, but wasn't even nominated.
