Learn about the folk and ethnic influences in classical music at the January installment of free monthly music lectures by Paul M. Somers, sponsored by the Bay-Atlantic Symphony. The lecture, "Beethoven and Celtic Music?" explores the ages-long tension between "learnéd music" and music of the people.

The lectures will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, at the Mill- ville Public Library, 210 Buck St., Millville; and on Jan. 27, at the Avalon Free Public Library, 235 32nd St., Avalon.
