Guildhall School Harpists Perform Edward Cowie World Premiere at Free Concert

Students and professors from the Guildhall School’s harp department will perform the world premiere of The Harp Weaver Series 1 by composer Edward Cowie on 25 November in the School’s Music Hall. The work was commissioned by the Guildhall School, funded by the PRS foundation. The first part of the work, made up of 12 pieces for solo harp, takes its inspiration from the natural beauty of Dartmoor and is accompanied by visual projections of the Dartmoor landscape. Part two explores the relationship between teacher and student in a series of 12 duets, entitled O Brook Variations. Cowie’s work is performed before Dowland’s Lachrymae Antiqua Pavan, two sonatas by Scarlatti and Alonso Mudarra’s Fantasia for solo harp.
